Thread bunches & breaks in Singer Futura CE250 Embroidery Sewing Machine?
I have a Singer Futura CE 250 sewing machine. I think I’m threading it correctly, but the thread (Coates & Clark…good thread) keeps bunching up somewhere before the needle/in the machine until the bunch gets too big for the eye of the needle, and it breaks (every five or ten inches of sewing…very frustrating).
It doesn’t matter which stitch; it even does it with a straight stitch, on cotton with the tension set at "S", right in the middle. It almost feels like it’s snagging on something within the machine. The needle is plenty big enough, so that’s not the problem, and it is installed correctly. There doesn’t seem to be any problem with the bobbin.
The person who had the machine before seems to have globbed up the needle holder with oil. I did clean that up, but they might have done some other stupid things.
The machine looks brand new, and came with all the accessories. I think it belonged to someone who never sewed, and was intimidated by it. Who knows what they could have forced or bent?
Anyone have any ideas? Does it need servicing? Right now I’d just like to do some straight sewing with a nice, working machine!
Another question…when I go to wind the bobbin, it does a few turns then beeps and stops. I turn it off, it starts up again. Not sure if I’m dong that right.
I’m pretty sure it’s not a tension thing…doesn’t matter where it’s set, it will sew fine for a while, then the thread bunches up BEFORE it goes through the needle, and the thread breaks off. The upper and lower stiches all appear to be nice and even before it does that.
This is a fussy machine.
