Advice on purchasing my first sewing machine?

Hi! I am buying my first sewing machine this weekend, and am looking for some advice on other "accessories" I might want to get (threads, scissors, etc). I am not much of a sewer, although I did take two classes in high school. I am looking to eventually make a set of curtains, and then on to some blankets and quilts. I really don’t have anything else.
